As ICL grows and raises its profile in the NFT space, I’m getting more questions regarding the Houou (鳳凰) NFT collection.
In this article, I’ll give you an overview of the project so that you have a better understanding of what this collection is all about.
What are Houou NFTs?
Houou is a fully on-chain NFT collection produced by ICL. Its current release plan is during the spring/summer of 2023.
Houou, aka Chinese Phoenix, is a mythical bird from Chinese mythology. It is considered to be a sacred bird and is often used as a symbol of immortality and renewal.
Ikehaya came up with the project plan as he wanted to create a collection for the community members to own as a membership badge. The main theme of the collection is “絆(Kizuna)”, meaning bond/connection/emotional tie in Japanese.
“Since ICL is an exclusive community, I wanted the members to feel a sense of belonging here,” Ikehaya said in the interview. His plan is to provide Houhou to all ICL members as a free-mint.
“We aim to be a leader in the Japanese NFT space. For that reason, I also want to utilize the Houou collection to deploy and try out new technologies and ideas.”
A well-established pixel artist, Monako, is in charge of the art. So far, Monako has shared the design ideas for Houou eggs.

Four stages are planned for the collection, as they reveal from an egg to a fully grown Houou.
How to get Houou allowlists?
Ikehaya plans to guarantee at least one allowlist for all ICL members.
“I want everyone to enjoy the experience of owning Houhou,” Ikehaya says. “Since we plan to continue adding more utilities using the fully on-chain technology, it will be not only fun but also an educational NFT for holders. I’m very excited to grow the collection together with the ICL members.”
